today i woke up with the sunshine streaming through my windows. it was a beautiful day today. i went to the coffee shop for a few hours, and decided the day was too gorgeous to pass up. went home around 2pm, and met mike for a cruise to the hataitai shops for a pie, and then went for a drive along all the beaches of the bay towns near us. it was a nice day.
last night i made chocolate chip cookies....from scratch. they were delicious. they are delicious. i have lots of them bagged up in the kitchen.
finally chatted with my best friend tonight. i hadn't chatted with her for a while now. and i have been missing her. i am still bummed that we don't get to share our daily texts or phone calls. well, it is a one way road at this point. i text her daily still via email, but she can't respond. i know i am silly, but i feel better popping in each day, to bother her or just let her know that someone on the other side of the world is thinking about her. we agreed that i was the sentimental nit wit i have always been, and i will continue this tradition until it becomes too ocd for anyone to handle.
i also chatted with my mom. i miss her too. and my dad. i haven't talked to her since i was on the sunshine coast in australia. i will get a phone card this week, and call them soon. it will be nice to actually speak to them. i know it is kind of twisted, but i get sad actually speaking to my friends and family at home on the phone b/c it just reminds me that it will be a really long time till i can actually see them again. and i am not talking about video chats either. but, i was happy to chit chat with my mom. i am proud of her for being such a good techie tonight.
earlier today when i was at the cafe, mike's mom called. it was nice to hear a familiar voice again. and i know she has been frustrated by the weird rules of international calling. mike wasn't around, so i gave her the quick update on us and how we are adjusting to things here in welly. she will try to call her son back in a couple of days. just another reason to get a calling card. let's all get connected.
we tried to watch the ex tonight. it was horrid. absolutely unwatchable. how terrible for zach braff and jason bateman to have that movie on their film history. then we watched sicko. it was a good movie. makes you wonder about things. and within 20 minutes, mike declared, "that's why we can never move back to the states!" a sentiment totally understandable at this point in our lives, when we want to have healthy babies at a local hospital in the next couple-few years.
we did get a video rental card...finally. we couldn't get one the first time we tried b/c we didn't have three references with landlines to put on our application. we got one last week, and we have been putting it to good use. we take advantage of the 5 movies for 10 dollars deal. doesn't include the new releases, but i really don't want to see get smart or mama mia at all. mike likes to go and spend a while browsing through the store, and it gives us something to do in the evenings, after dinner and after studying. not so much netflix here!
anyhoo, it is past midnight, and i am not sure how much more mundane crap i have to tell you right now. good night.
