happy birthday...

***note: late post from yesterday, 27 august 2008***

to me! i am now in my thirties. the end of my third decade. how did i get here?!?!

30 is a big year for me. my first birthday as a wife. my last birthday celebrated in the states (for at least a couple years). this year is hugely meaningful for me. big changes, new challenges, more growing up.

last night mike and i were at dinner, and i was telling him that i have no needs or wants for my birthday. how can i ask for anything more than what i already have? i am loved by my husband. i am loved by my family. i am loved by my best friend. i am loved by my friends near and far.

in a matter of weeks, i will be laying on the beach in fiji, reading books, sipping cocktails, and playing in the ocean. after that, i will be hanging out with kangaroos and koalas, and hopefully scuba diving in the great barrier reef. then, as if that wasn't already a dream come true, mike and i will be beginning our new life together in new zealand. who else gets to live these dreams???? it is really hard to believe and wrap my head around. i am so thankful and happy. it is ironic...although things are pretty up in the air in terms of our travel and how things will work out for us down under, i am feeling relaxed and settled about the whole thing.

tonight mike is taking me out to sushi. i am looking forward to it. we invited people to come if they wanted. no pressure, nothing formal. we made plans, and if friends want to join, we would love the company. if no one shows, i won't be bummed b/c we will still be celebrating together. and chefs scott, michael, and jeung will be there!

after work, i am planning on making it to the gym for a little bit of me time before the festivities start. i know you know that i have been complaining that my gym time has taken a pretty signifcant nose dive since we moved to san jose. the apple gym is just not as convenient to get to nowadays. and i am such a picky runner. it is way too hot in almaden valley for me to run outside on the blacktop. seriously, i am missing the trail near our place in mountain view, where the path is always shaded and cool. just wait, in a few months i will be whining about it being to rainy and cold in nz to run outside! haha. how's that for the grass is always greener?
