multitasking this & that

seriously, this is my life. i always feel the need to get things done, cross them off my many lists, and be on top of it all.

here i am, saturday afternoon, blogging, as well as managing to enter orders and answer the phones here in the pharmacy. thank goodness i am not here alone like i was last night. same kind of work, different hospital. honestly, whenever i go to work, i always give myself a little pep talk, and hope that the night will be an easy one--no stroke alerts, no complicated tpn's, no screaming nurses. so far, my little silent prayer has worked. i am keeping my fingers crossed.

my coworker, r and i, were talking last night about working late shifts. we both agreed that it isn't the fact that we have to work late or close the pharmacy, it's the going to work part of it. we both dislike driving into work when everyone else is commuting home on a friday night, or leaving our loved ones and sunshine behind as we drag ourselves to work on a weekend. once i am here, i actually like working. i mean, i am not all upset about doing my job, and i try very hard to be in a cheerful mood. i always try to sound chipper when i am on the phone, and greet everyone politely. of course, there are times when someone might get a "pharmacy, this is katrina" rather than a "good evening, pharmacy, this is katrina. how can i help you?" so, i am here now, and i am in a fine mood. the mint chip ice cream cones helped!

mike and i went running shoe shopping this morning for me. i needed a new pair of shoes since my old ones are getting worn, and i wanted another pair dedicated for running, so i don't have to transfer my sensor pouch from one pair of shoes to another. it is inconvenient since the pouch is secured via the shoelaces. so, i got a pair of asics. they are nice. i guess the are the standard running shoe. apparently, my left foot is good to go, but my right foot overpronates a little bit. whatever. they are comfy, and i will test them out tomorrow. mike said that he would do a trail run with me. i am sure that my outside runs will not be as good as the ones i have done on the treadmill. the great thing about the treadmill is that it keeps you going at a constant speed. trail runs are all about you and moving those lead feet on your own accord. so, we will see how that goes.

i was chatting with an old friend...from junior high, that's how long i have known this girl...and she asked me if i wanted to do a run with her in august when she is in san francisco visiting her grandmother. i asked her how long it was, and she said that it was a half marathon. yikes. i don't think that i am ready for that at all. i am a good cheerleader; perhaps that is how i can be a part of that race! so, this got me inspired to look up local races coming up. maybe i will try to run a couple before we leave for nz. i think i would like to experience a race here in the area. there is one in castro valley in july and one in san jose in august. i will have to check it out.

the internet has been failing to entertain me lately. it is boring. i remember when i could surf the net for hours, and just find new things to research. now, i have my favorite sites to visit, and i am bored in about 10 minutes. so, i am often left to sit here and wallow in my own thoughts...and blog about it.

mike and i are trying to hold off on our excitement about moving away. we are trying to pass the next 2-3 weeks away quickly as we await the final decision. i am positive that we will be accepted, but there is still a part of me that does not want to jinx anything. i did end up telling my boss and coworkers at one place. everyone took the news well, and the excitement was perpetuated even more. i can't really imagine how we will feel when we get our answer, and receive our passports back with our stamps in them!

i am bummed that i will not be able to go to germany with mike this summer. i feel extra bad b/c i know that our german friends were looking forward to both of us visiting, and now i feel like i have disappointed them. however, i know they understand the complexity of the situation. the concert that mike and siefke are going to is deep in the forest of a tiny german town, about 4 hours from stuttgart, where the other germans live. it just seems like an illogical plan for me to go when there is so much distance to be covered. plus, we are trying to continue to save our pennies, and going to europe in the summer is expensive. i have just come to the conclusion that it would be better for mike to go by himself, if he doesn't mind traveling alone. it would be less money, and i would also have a chance to visit sunny in seattle. it would be nice to stay more local and get to spend some quality time with my best friend.

in the midst of all this wonderful excitement, i have also started feeling a little anxiety, fear, and sadness about potentially leaving the states for awhile. we are thinking that we will probably stay in nz for about 2 years without coming back, even to visit. this plan is flexible, just in case we need to come home for some unforeseen event. in processing this, i have started to realize that i have some real insecurities about leaving, as i am sure anyone would, wandering so far from everything that feels like home. with that being said, it is not that i don't want to go, b/c i do. i am looking forward to living abroad. i can't wait for the international experience, and my fears and anxiety are quelled by the fact that we are so much closer than we once were. my friend, geraldine, who came here with her husband from france, made a comment that has stuck with me: people can be strangers in the same town, but be great friends across the world.

honestly, this is not to offend anyone, since i am not sure who is/will be actually reading this verbal diarrhea, but i know who i will miss the most. hands down, without even thinking twice, that would be my best friend, sunshine. she has been my dependable, wonderful friend for years now....all the way back when she was driving me to school every morning from the sunset district in san francisco in her brand new civic. alas, i have been so spoiled. we talk on the phone on an almost daily basis, even if it is just to bitch about our days at work or laugh about silly tidbits of nothingness. mike has repeatedly told me that cell phone minutes are hard to come by and cost a fortune in nz, like the plans start at 20 minutes a month...yikes! how am i supposed to not talk to sunny for days on end?!? although this idea horrifies me, and makes me twinge for my comfort zone, i am trying to prepare myself for this. we have been texting much more lately, especially since i figured out how to do the predictive text stuff, and we might just have to reinstate our webcam form of communication, like we did when she first moved to seattle for pharmacy school. in a sad, and not meant to be mean way, i am thankful that we have lived 1000 miles apart for the last 5 years...it will make moving just a bit further away just a tad bit less difficult. yes, i am being sarcastic....

anyhoo, the point of that ramble: i will miss sunny like crazy. she knows it, i know it. i am trying to handle it. i told her she should come with us...i would pack her up in my pocket and take her down under.

it has been 6 hours since i started my shift. i still have 2 hours left to go. what's next?
