so, mike and i have been going to this sushi place for a while now. they were great before, and now that they have changed ownership, they are even better. i have been on a big sushi kick for about a month or two, and i have been craving sashimi a lot lately.
last friday, they had their grand opening party...with $0.01 shots of sake. i was so bummed i couldn't go to this event since i had to work at the pharmacy that night. but apparently mike and his coworkers made quite the impression on the sushi chefs.
we walked into the restaurant last night and the sushi chefs greeted us with, "hello michael!" i was a little worried that he made the bad kind of impression, but no, it was the good kind. the sushi chefs must have had a good time with the boys as well.
so, we sit down at the bar, and are immediately served a little piece of sashimi presented nicely on the small dish. and then comes the cucumber vinegar salad with a half of a grape, a slice of a strawberry, and a half a cherry tomato....followed by miso soup, and a salad. mike ordered a small chef's special sashimi plate, and i got a spring collection roll, which according to ritz, the waitress, is very popular right now, especially amongst the ladies.
we got our food, and then made a new friend, lee, while sitting at the bar. the chefs, lee, and mike were toasting and cheering the whole time. it was fun. lee then started buying us more sashimi, and chef scott busted out the sake. first we had a very nice organic sake made in berkeley. then later, chef scott gave us a bottle of sake from japan. after 4 shots, i couldn't do anymore, so scott gave us the rest of the bottle to take home.
chef scott started telling us about his training as a sushi chef, and about his expensive, fancy knife. it was so interesting.
all in all, it was an awesome and fun night. and we made a dinner date with lee for next thursday too!
