today at work, i had my usual thursday adult palliative care meeting. we always open our meeting with a thought, quote, blurb by emmah, our spiritual care counselor on the team. today, emmah started the meeting by saying that spring always brings new things, and asked us to share what was new in our lives. we went around the room, saying something new. most people said that they are cleaning out closets or working on home projects. pat said that she is doing a volunteer coordinator project with her church in june. i was next to last to speak, and i said, "it's funny that you ask about something "new" b/c we are starting a new life in the fall. we are moving to new zealand." everyone was floored, and the questions came. but there was genuine excitement from the team, which made me happy. i am probably the youngest member of the team, so rhonda commented, oh how nice it is to be young and carefree. and others chimed in with "i wish i could do that!" perhaps it was too early to tell them, but it's okay for me. i was glad for their enthusiasm and kind words. they will probably forget about it anyway!
my 4 day weekend started today after my meeting. i have been wanting to get a new summer dress for my sister's graduation, but hadn't been able to find anything that i would wear more than once and in my price range. i didn't want to spend a fortune on anything, especially since i don't generally wear dresses at all, let alone in the cooler nz weather. but, i was successful at target today. i got a spring green, simple summer dress and some nicer brown flip flops to go with it. the dress and the shoes were less than 40 bucks. i say nicer flip flops b/c these are nicer (read newer) than my old teva flip flops that probably need to be replaced soon. and i wanted to be comfy at the graduation ceremony and dinner. i like this outfit b/c i can be comfortable in it all day. so, yay for me and my bargain hunting.
today i tried to push myself a little further during my morning run. i ran a little longer today. i actually ran for 30 minutes straight. usually, i run for 25 minutes, with a 5 minute warm up and cool down walk. today, i went 4.17 miles, and paula radcliff came on my ipod to tell me that i burned a lot of calories this workout. i think it was 352 calories. so, i started my day off in the right direction.
tonight my parents and grandma are arriving in san jose to kick off the graduation festivities. i am excited to see them. we have been trying to take a road trip down to so cal to drop off some boxes at my parents' house and go to disneyland and whatnot, but we just can't seem to find the time. my goal is to make it down there a couple more times before we go abroad.
time to quit blogging and get the laundry sorted. boo. no fun.
