working, pay it forward

i am technically working right now. i am up in the second floor satellite pharmacy. i have about an hour left of my day. nothing too stressful going on up here. thank goodness. honestly, everytime i come to this hospital, i say a little prayer that the day is going to be easy. have i told you that before? this morning, as i dragged myself out of my cozy bed at 5:40am, i was really hoping for a smooth sailing day. so far, it has been a good day. i will continue to hope that my last hour is easy, and i am not blown out of the water in the last few minutes of my shift.

it is hard to believe that may is already here. it has been almost a month since my lasik surgery. my vision is perfect. i see clearly each day when i wake up! it is such a wonderful thing. i am so glad that i had the procedure done!

mike and i have been talking about "pay it forward" lately. he offered to edit some guy's movie, and now that guy is gonna help him shoot his movie. everyone wins; it's a symbiotic relationship. i think we should all try to pay it forward. it helps humanity, even if it is on a small scale.

here is my pay it forward. on sunday, when we were on the airplane coming back to sfo from seattle, about halfway into the flight, there was an overhead message asking if anyone has any medical/healthcare experience to please ring your call light. i didn't ring the button at first, i was hoping that there really was a doctor or nurse on board. however, when i only saw one person go up there, i decided to offer my help, if i was needed. the other girl there was a first year medical student, and together, we tried to assess the situation with what little equipment they had on the plane. the patient was a young guy, about 20 years old. he had not eaten much that day, felt nauseous, was feverish with alternating chills and hot spells. the flight attendants were giving him oxygen and orange juice. i think he had an anxiety attack, and was probably just freaked out. the pilots were communicating with the medical team on the ground, and we basically gave the guy an aspirin, and waited to land. the paramedics met us on the ground. i don't know how everything turned out. the paramedics probably took him to an emergency room, and got him all taken care of. it was interesting to be a part of it all. i wish that i had more confidence to ring that bell immediately. oh well, i tried.

i have been a little anxious to hear back from nz immigration. i am waiting for the little blue stickers to come back in our passports. checking the mail has become one of the major highlights of my day. i feel like a kid at christmas. i want to open that present!

however, getting that present means that i actually have to get my act together and start packing up and cleaning for real! that is that part i am not wanting to face at this point. i get so overwhelmed...

today i am going to try to run for 2 or 3 minutes longer than yesterday. time to slightly ramp up my workout and challenge myself. i will let you know how it goes!
